I am a licensed psychologist specializing in individual and group therapy and I maintain a part-time private practice in Media, PA. I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology at the College of William and Mary and my doctorate (PhD) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA. At VCU I earned a certificate in Multicultural Training. I have spent the last 12 years working at Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Pennsylvania. I have extensive experience working with a range of clinical issues in older adolescents and adults, such as depression, anxiety, identity issues, relationship concerns, and career development. I have particular interest in working with women and with racial/ethnic minorities, including multiracial/ethnic individuals. I also have 15 years of experience leading groups.
As a therapist I respect individual empowerment and admire the resilience of the human spirit. I work from a collaborative stance that stems from the individual’s therapeutic goals, whether they involve coping with an immediate stressor or working through deeper issues toward lasting personality change. My theoretical approach is an integrative approach that combines cognitive, relational, and humanistic perspectives. I integrate practical life management skills such as time management, relaxation, and mindfulness with exploration, emotional expression, and insight development. I believe that our greatest growth happens in the context of relationships with others and that this can include the therapeutic relationship. My focus on the importance of relationship extends to my love of leading groups. I thrive on the power of sharing, support, and connection. I view group therapy as a uniquely effective means of learning about, nurturing, and challenging oneself.
